MT2C Embedded Tutors
The Embedded Tutoring Program is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and retention. Embedded Tutors (ETs) provide free weekly review sessions to students enrolled in a targeted historically difficult course. ET sessions are interactive review sessions that incorporate course content (what to learn) and study strategies (how to learn). Student attendance is voluntary. The ET Program aims:
• To increase retention within targeted historically difficult courses
• To improve student grades in targeted historically difficult courses
• To increase the graduation rates of students
What does the Embedded Tutor do?
The ET serves to reinforce material presented by faculty members by giving students
learning strategies and opportunity for peer interaction. This is accomplished by
having “ET sessions” after a class section has met. Based on the syllabus, instructor’s
handouts, and classroom meetings, the ET will have material prepared for the after
class session. After observing the class session, the ET will identify areas of student
difficulty to focus the ET session on. The ET will guide students through this material
by presenting challenging, creative, and engaging opportunities for students to collaborate
with their peers and work through material relevant to the class.
