The San Diego Mesa College Health and Wellness Community Clinic provides students
with hands-on experiential learning opportunities while offering health care services
at a significantly reduced cost for adults and children who are uninsured or underinsured
in our San Diego Community. We strive to provide comprehensive, equitable and inclusive
learning opportunities for students while addressing the physical, mental, and emotional
health needs of our clients.
Health and Wellness Clinic Goals

Establish effective communication skills consistent with the healthcare industry that
emphasize culturally relevant services to underserved and underrepresented populations
within our community.

Develop competent clinical skills that demonstrate excellence in student learning
and prioritize equitable opportunities and service to underserved and underrepresented
populations within our community.

Provide inclusive opportunities for students in Allied Health programs at San Diego
Mesa College to implement ethical conduct and professionalism to improve program completion.

Establish partnerships with the community to provide student support through completion
of their Allied Health program with emphasis on inclusion, diversity and equity within
the development of future clinicians.

Develop self-assessment skills that foster continued growth of knowledge, skills and
behavior as appropriate for employment in Allied Health professions.
PTA Program Clinical Goals

Develop a clinical environment which encourages student learning emphasizing client
safety and appropriate clinical reasoning through diverse hands-on experiential learning
opportunities.

Develop student communication skills both verbally and in writing, as appropriate
for a PTA.

Establish ethical and professional behaviors consistent with professional standards
of PTA practice in interactions with clients, faculty, peers and clinicians that incorporate
individual and cultural differences.

Encourage students to participate in self-assessment and develop plans to improve
clinical skills and behaviors with an emphasis on equitable care with respect to patients’
values, preferences and needs as appropriate for a PTA.

Provide inclusive opportunities for community members to engage in the PTA student
learning process through experience sharing and participation in physical therapy
services.
