Classroom Tutors
Student Information
San Diego Mesa College supports Classroom Tutoring as a great way to help students achieve their educational goals. With the guidance of our trained Classroom Tutors, you'll get great support, not just with content, but also with study strategies, time management, and group interaction.
Our Classroom Tutors are trained according to the "Supplemental Instruction Model", from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. In this model, our Classroom Tutors attend the class meetings of your course with you, taking notes of material that might prove challenging, or watching where students might have difficulty. Then they provide the opportunity for extra assistance and reinforcement in a "Classroom Tutoring Session", where you and your classmates can come together to master what was covered during the class session.
Classroom Tutoring is a great way to work on course material for all students, regardless of how you are doing in the course. After all, everyone wants to work with friends, learn together, and get the highest grade possible!

Cheyenne Mercer
How would you describe your background?
I was born and raised in San Diego. I decided to go to Mesa because one, it is close to where I live, but mainly because I knew I could accomplish my goals by attending a community college.
What activities do you enjoy in your free time?
I am a jack of all trades, master of none. I enjoy a lot of different things but I am not skilled at any of them. Some of the things I like to do are play guitar, surf, snowboard, sing, run with my dog, eat sushi on a regular basis, watch movies, and hangout with nerdy people.
What would you like people to know about you?
I do not know anyone who enjoys school as much as I do. I consider being a student a passion of mine. I enjoy tutoring math and chemistry. I love listening to people's stories and getting to know everyone around me because I think people are interesting.
What are your plans after your time at Mesa College?
After Mesa, I will be transferring to a four year university and then possibly medical school. I have no specification as to what kind of medical profession I want to pursue, but i figure getting into medical school would be a good start. If that doesn't play out I will probably just live at my parents house and play video games forever...
Andrew Tracey
How would you describe your background?
I come from a large state university where class sizes routinely reached into hundreds of students. A change of major and career goals brought me to Mesa. So far, I have found the smaller class sizes and more individualized attention that are available at Mesa to provide a more rewarding educational experience.
What activities do you enjoy in your free time?
In my free time, I study Latin, French, and history. I like to hike and take long walks.
What are your plans after your time at Mesa College?
After I leave Mesa, I plan to transfer to UCLA to continue my undergraduate studies in ancient languages and culture. After I earn my bachelor's I plan to attend graduate school in the same field.
Jose Franco Rojo
How would you describe your background?
My parents have little education so I grew up learning much that I know on my own.
Because of this i had to adapt to be self reliant, not knowing that asking for help
is acceptable. With this I struggled quite a bit because i didn't ask for help when
i would struggle on something and just tough it out, which caused me to either not
complete something, or to fail at it.
What activities do you enjoy in your free time?
I enjoy figuring out new things in STEM fields, whether it be Mathematics or Science. I also enjoy playing video games with friends.
What are your plans after your time at Mesa College?
I want to transfer to a university but I'm not sure of my Major. I'll most likely be pursuing a degree in either Mathematics Education or Mathematics as it applies to a field of Science.
